Packing a Doggy Backpack

Dog ball, dog at park, dog training articleMany pet owners find it fun to bring their dog along when going out for the day. Whether a day at the park, a trip to obedience class or a longer outing, it’s a good idea to bring along some basic essentials for your pet.

Instead of gathering each item every time you’re bringing your dog or puppy somewhere, it’s helpful to have a special bag or backpack with all of your pet’s supplies. This way, he’s ready to go at a moment’s notice, and you don’t end up arriving at the park and realizing that you forgot his ball or water.

A backpack is convenient because it leaves your hands free to enjoy the day. Some must-have items that should be in there at all times include plastic bags for cleaning up, a small plastic bowl for water, a small towel for cleaning paws before getting back in your car, a toy such as a ball or frisbee, and any training equipment you may want to use while you’re out. Other helpful items include a tick remover (there is a small, plastic one called “Ticked Off” which works great), some small dog treats and a 20’ long line so you can exercise your dog while still keeping him safely on-leash.

When it comes to taking your dog along, there are a plethora of specialty items you can buy that can increase convenience, such a special dog canteen water bowls, special encapsulated doggy cleanup bags and even special backpacks made just for dogs. However, there is no need to get so fancy unless you want to. Your dog will not notice whether fancy or plain, he’ll just be happy you didn’t forget his ball.

With just a little advance planning and taking some simple steps to be organized ahead of time, you can add convenience and pleasure to enjoying time out with your dog or puppy.
